VUCIC: SERBIA STABLE, GOAL TO JOIN EU IN 2020

BELGRADE, Feb. 21 (Tanjug) - Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stated on Thursday evening that Serbia has full political stability, which is very important for the entire region, adding that the country's goal is to join the EU in 2020. Vucic said in an interview for CNN that people in Serbia believe in their government and reforms, adding that reforms are expected to be continued and very successful. He said that new laws have to be passed, such as the Law on Civil Servants and the Labor Law, and announced special incentives for all investors who come to Serbia in the next two years. Serbia is a very good place for investors, and I hope that investors will come in large numbers, and we will be strongly committed to reaching our goals and joining the EU in 2020, Vucic said.

Asked to comment on the situation in Ukraine which, just like Serbia, has close ties with both Russia and the EU, Vucic noted that Serbia has recently opened the EU accession negotiations and made a lot of progress. Vucic expressed hope that Ukraine will manage to overcome all difficulties, adding that for the reason Serbia is doing its best to achieve its goals and get closer to the EU.

Commenting on the situation in the region, Vucic said that he is deeply concerned about everything that is happening, but added that he is absolutely sure that Serbia will avoid such a scenario. We are really trying and doing everything in our might to avoid any unrest. We have to reform our economy, and we have already done a lot in this respect. We have established the rule of law and fought against organized crime and corruption, and this is what makes Serbia different from the others in the region, Vucic said.
