Ambassador Tomašević Attends Tesla Anniversary Commemorations at Niagara
The program began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Nikola Tesla Monument at Niagara Falls, attended by Mayor James (Jim) Diodati, Niagara Parks CEO David Adames, Member of Parliament Tony Baldinelli, provincial legislators and representatives of local authorities, Borislav Zivkovic, Executive Director of Tesla Fest, together with his associates, Father Stanko Antic, parish priest of the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. George in Niagara, as well as numerous representatives of the Serbian-Canadian community.The commemoration continued with an event organized by Nikola Tesla Fest in front of the Power Station Museum, the central landmark within Niagara Parks, bringing together distinguished scientists, researchers, and admirers of the life and legacy of Serbia's greatest inventor. The exhibition featured presentations dedicated to Tesla's scientific achievements, scale models of his inventions and patents, as well as books honoring the Serbian genius.As the central event marking the 170th anniversary of Nikola Tesla's birth, a gala evening was held in Niagara, attended by more than 400 guests. In addition to remarks delivered by Member of Parliament Ned Kuruc, Director of Culture for the City of Niagara Cathy Moldenhauer, and Niagara Parks CEO David Adames, Ambassador Stefan Tomasevic addressed the audience with a keynote speech. The event was also attended by Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Toronto Dejan Erakovic.The gala evening also featured the promotion of Air Serbia's direct Belgrade–Toronto service, in the presence of George Petkovic, Air Serbia's Director for North America. Among this year's distinguished performers were renowned Serbian violinist Stefan Milenkovic, who performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Montreal-based Serbian pianist Viktor Lazarov, as well as acclaimed actresses Jelena Gavrilovic and Maja Kolundzija Zoroe. Ms. Kolundzija Zoroe performed her monodrama Iskra ("Spark"), inspired by and dedicated to Georgina (Djuka) Tesla, the mother of Nikola Tesla.Thanks to a decision by the City of Niagara, Niagara Falls were illuminated in the colors of the Serbian national tricolor in honor of the anniversary of Nikola Tesla's birth.
