Ambassador Tomašević hosted Serbian language teachers in Ottawa

08. Nov 2025.
Ambassador Stefan Tomašević hosted, at the premises of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia, teachers who teach Serbian language as a supplementary class to elementary school students in Ottawa. The Serbian language classes are conducted within the framework of the International & Indigenous Languages Program, under the auspices of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.

In a pleasant and constructive atmosphere, discussions focused on the importance of preserving the Serbian language and Cyrillic script, as well as on the challenges and opportunities to bring the program even closer to the Serbian community in Canada.

The special role of supplementary classes in nurturing the cultural and national identity of children growing up outside the homeland was emphasized – as a bridge connecting new generations with their roots, traditions, and language.
Discussions also included ways to encourage more students to take part in the program, as well as potential opportunities for future cooperation between the Embassy and the schools participating in this program.
Ambassador Tomašević expressed his gratitude to the teachers for their dedication, enthusiasm, and significant contribution to preserving the Serbian language and culture in Canada.
