A Memorial Service Held in Ottawa for the Victims of the Criminal Operation “Storm”

At the Church of Saint Archdeacon Stephen in Ottawa, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Canada, Stefan Tomašević, the representative of the Association of Krajina Serbs, Željko Zec, and a large number of members of the community, a memorial service was held for the victims of the criminal operation “Storm,” which led to the mass exodus of the Serbian population from the territory of the Republic of Serbian Krajina.

As a consequence of this ethnic cleansing—the largest Europe has witnessed since the Second World War—more than 1,900 Serbs were killed or remain missing, while over 220,000 were forcibly expelled from their ancestral homes. Of the total number of victims, 1,250 were civilians, including 566 women and ten children under the age of 14. In this brutal crime, which remains unpunished, 40,000 residential and commercial properties were destroyed, 78 Serbian churches and monasteries were demolished, burned, or desecrated, and 920 monuments of the Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbian cultural and historical heritage were devastated.

May the victims be granted eternal glory! We will remember for as long as we exist and teach those who come after us that we have no right to forget!
