First Bilateral Visit of Canadian Members of Parliament to Serbia

The delegation of the Canada–Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Parliament of Canada, led by its Chair, Nenad Kuruc, during its stay in Serbia, met with President of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister Đuro Macut, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić, and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Dragan Glamočić.

A meeting was also held at the National Assembly with the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Canada, led by Svetlana Milijić, while talks were held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia with representatives of the Development Agency of Serbia and the Serbian business community. The delegation also visited the Office for Information Technologies and eGovernment.

The meetings focused on strengthening parliamentary, political and economic cooperation, investments, innovation, artificial intelligence, energy, mining, education, science and digitalization. Particular attention was paid to the importance of the Serbian diaspora in Canada, the direct Belgrade–Toronto air route, visa policy, as well as current international issues and the situation in Kosovo and Metohija.

The visit took place in a year when Serbia and Canada are marking 85 years of diplomatic relations, and its particular significance also lies in the resumption of the work of the parliamentary friendship groups after a multi-year pause. The meetings confirmed the mutual interest in continuing the dialogue and in concretely strengthening cooperation between Serbia and Canada.
