CUSTOMS CERTIFICATE

Citizens of the Republic of Serbia who have worked in Canada continuously for at least two years, and at most continuously up to ten years, upon return to Serbia, are exempt from paying import duties on household items imported from abroad (except for motor vehicles) within one year from the day of return from work abroad, to the total value of 20,000 euros in dinars. The customs certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue.

Citizens of the Republic of Serbia who have worked abroad continuously for 10 years or more, are exempt from paying import duties on household items imported from abroad within one year from the date of return from work abroad, ie there is no restriction for these persons in respect of the total value which is the subject of the import.

To issue a Customs Certificate, the following must be submitted:

  • a photocopy of valid Serbian passport,
  • A written statement stating the exact date of arrival in Canada (day, month and year) and the period spent working in Canada (day, month and year),
  • Original certificate of the company (on the memorandum) on the duration of employment, or
    • Report form the website of Canada Pension Plan (CPP) - list of all tax paid for the income earned by employment
    • Report (T-4) on paid taxes for each of consecutive years of work, or
    • Social insurance report on pension length of service or report on work performed on the basis of which the right to a pension was acquired,
  • Consular fee in the amount of 192 CAD (ways to pay)
  • If the request is sent by mail, a self-addressed return envelope with prepaid postage and tracking number should be included  (shipping by mail service)

Notes:

The certificate does not apply to exemption from import duties on the import of a motor vehicle or commercial inventory
Students and persons with a regulated residence in Canada and a work permit who have not been employed continuously for at least two years are not entitled to a customs certificate.
