Travel documents/Issuance of Biometric Passport

Issuance of Serbian Travel Documents:

ISSUANCE OF A BIOMETRIC PASSPORT

During the stay abroad, passport serves as proof of the identity of its holder and as proof of his/her being a national of the Republic of Serbia. Passport can only be used by the person to whose name it has been issued. Serbian passports are issued by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.

When applying for a new passport, it is necessary to apply in person. When applying for a child, the presence of a child is also necessary.

Required documents:

  1. The previous Serbian biometric passport,
  2. The proof of your legal stay in Canada (Residence Permit Card, work permit, student visa, Canadian passport)
  3. Completed and signed form zahtev
  4. In case you don't have Serbian biometric passport, you should provide Certificate of Serbian Citizenship or get in touch with Consular Section - consular.ottawa@mfa.rs in order to check your Serbian citizenship status
  5. In case you need a new passport delivered to your home address, you should also bring with you one self-addressed prepaid envelope which contains tracking number (shipping by mail service)
  6. Consular tax is 91 CAD and it must be paid with debit card at the Embassy. In case your previous passport is expiting in more than 7 months, the consular tax will be 98 CAD.

If you need to apply for the biometric passport of Serbia for the first time, since you acquired your Serbian citizenship recently, and you do have the Decision of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia confirming your acceptance into the citizenship of Serbia, it is necessary to start the procedure of registering into Serbian books of vital records. The issuance of a new passport is not possible without the registration of your birth in Serbian Vital Statistics.

When applying for a minor child, it is necessary for both parents to be present at the Embassy, or in case that one parent cannot be present – the written consent signed at the office of Canadian Notary Public. (SaglasnostRoditelja-eng.doc).

The new passport will be issued within two months. The passport can be issued in less than two months if you ask for an urgent procedure and bring the proof of urgency.

Deliverance of the new passport

Passport can be delivered to the person authorized by the applicant in case that the applicant could not be present. In this case, the authorized person is required to bring the following:

  • Authorization letter (must be written in Serbian language and notarized. The sample can be viewed here: ovlascenje.preuzimanje.pasosa.doc)
  • Applicant’s passport - for cancellation, if it's not already expired. We will not punch holes on foreign visas or work permit stickers in your old passport.
  • Valid passport of the authorized person.

The Embassy is unable to accept requests for a biometric passport for the following persons:

  • Children born in Canada until their birth has been duly registered in the vital records in Serbia.
  • A person who concluded marriage in Canada and is applying for a new passport with a changed family name unless the change of family name has been duly registered in the Vital records in Serbia.

LOSS/THEFT OF THE PASSPORT

In the case of loss or theft of the biometric passport of the Republic of Serbia, it is necessary to immediately report the loss/theft to the Canadian Police Department and obtain the Police Report regarding the same. Afterward, the Embassy may initiate a procedure for declaring the missing passport invalid and you may apply in person for a new passport or travel document for your return back to Serbia.

For declaring Serbian passport lost, it is necessary to submit the following documents:
